The plus-sized fashion community has grown tremendously in the past few years. Davis is a big reason for this. During her career she made frequent appearances for Essence Magazine, Ashley Stewart, Lane Bryant and Monif C. Her impact on the fashion industry as a whole has, in fact, changed it forever.Davis did not begin her career as a model. She began it in the television industry as a production assistant/producer on The Ricki Lake Show. It was during that time that she decided to enter the blossoming, plus-sized model industry. She immediately took the fashion community by storm. She was the face of the 2010 and 2011 campaign of The Fuller Woman Expo. She’s been a CNN guest commentator, and worked as the Creative Editor-At-Large for Plus Model Magazine.
The details of her death were not at first known even by her family. They only knew that she was currently undergoing medical procedures, so it was strongly believed that surgical complications were involved. Those suspicions were later confirmed when the examining doctor informed Mia’s husband, Michael Yard, that his wife died from a blood clot related to her knee surgery. Mia’s cousin revealed to the public that Mia was actually very excited about having surgery on a knee that had been bothering her for several years. These findings, however, did not become official or publicized until the toxicology test results were finalized several weeks later.
Mia Amber Davis’ body was flown to New York where she was laid to rest. Janice Dickerson, host of Oxygen’s The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency: Size Does Matter, on which Mia appeared, attended the funeral. In remembrance of Mia she said, “I am proud to say she was my friend, and she had a heart of gold, and I loved her dearly.” Dickerson was sharing a sentiment that millions of people around the world possess. She will always be remembered for her undying positive attitude and her intelligent leadership.
